Ten Chances Logo Design – Ideation and Process
An Experimental Urban Artists’ Residency
Collaborative logo design with director Patricia Healy McMeans
Logo design created in collaboration with Patricia Healy McMeans in the summer of 2012.
Ten Chances — No Hustle is an artists’ residency in Minneapolis, MN U.S.
This discursive art residency bridges the gap between academia and the real world. It is a place for serious artists of rigor to step back from the Hustle and take time for experiment and research. Ideas, like people, sometimes need a second chance to find their groove. Give them three. Give them ten.
In addition to the designs, Patty and I worked to determine an appropriate and dynamic residency name. The name, with corresponding design treatments went through several variations beginning with Wigs On the Green. Initial ideas had the idea of artists with dueling pistols originally inspired by Patty’s previous exhibition “Rumble on the South Side.”
At each stage of ideation we would work an potential name (which was always the best one at the moment) generate visual solutions and determine appropriateness. This process took several days of working and reworking ideas. Order of potential names: Wigs On the Green, Lock & Dam, Embankment, Ten Chances (with several insignificant variations)
